A Pencilful of Villainy
August 6th, 2008 Kai StarrWell, I got my drawing done of Nathan Blake! He certainly doesn’t look as creepy and evil as he is. His face is kind of boyish, actually, in spite of the fact that he’s 24 years old. But anyway, here’s the pic, all in pencil in my usual style:

Today, in Desperado Dawn, Ricky reads some of his dime-novel-in-progress to Joshua and Molly, and gets a lukewarm reaction.

Nice drawing, Kai! But MY GOD, Nathan is a horrible man! Chapter 20 made me shudder, literally shudder! You are so good at creating characters that get under the reader’s skin! WOOF! Joshua thinks of himself as so bad, but he’s a sweet little guy who is only misguided. Nathan is an unholy bastard. He’s good looking though! I think that makes his evil seem even worse, somehow.

Thanks, Kimi! And yeah, Nate is horrible. I get all kinds of disturbed, while writing his scenes. But he’s a true villain, and this story needed one. You’re right about Josh, too. He’s not half as bad as he thinks he is! Jenny, however, is a lot worse than she thinks she is. :P

I agree! Your drawings are always fine, Kai. Nathan looks a bit like Brendan Fraser, doesn’t he? I wonder if Fraser could handle such a gruesome role, if a movie were to be made of “Desperado Dawn”…
