Song Notes
These mp3's are not the final masters. Most are demos, though some of them are not far off from the CD finals in quality. Songs are currently available only as streams through my on-site player, thanks to some Russian thieves who thought "free to play" meant "free to steal and redistribute as we please, without permission." Sorry for the lack of free downloads. I may implement them, again, if I can find a way to do so without letting unscrupulous bastards swipe my work.
Album: Desperado
RPM Challenge 2009 album. It's a soundtrack for my Desperado series of western novels. Got some instrumentals, some country-folksy-Western style songs, some mushy ballads. Lots of fun stuff!
Gunslinger
Soundtrack, 2009. Instrumental theme for my Desperado series of western novels. Very fast, incidental music with guitars, congas, clavs, bass and more!
Tennessee In My Dreams
Soundtrack, 2009. Another song "written" by outlaw Joshua Love. This one is country/rock/folksy. Just guitars, drums and vocal!
When Jenny Holds Me Tight
Soundtrack, 2009. The song Joshua Love writes for Jenny Sue Carter, in Rustler's Roundup. He finished the lyrics just for me, so I figured I'd better sing it for him. Has kind of an old Hank Williams, Sr. feel to it.
Molly Be My Bride
Soundtrack, 2009. Another song "written" by outlaw Joshua Love. Goes with the storyline in Desperado Dawn, and is a slow ballad with a gospel feel! Piano and organ.
Sweet, Sweet, Kiss
Soundtrack, 2009. Another song "written" by outlaw Joshua Love. Upbeat, hoe-down style country-folksy song, which appears in the serialized novel, Desperado Dawn. Guitars, drums, and fun!
I'll Follow You (Jenny's Song)
Soundtrack, 2009. A haunting waltz, sung by my wife Kimi, doing Jenny's little-girl voice. This is pretty much Jenny's theme.
San Antonio Nights
Soundtrack, 2009. A sultry, Latin instrumental. Part of the score for the upcoming novel, Rollin' Thunder. Piano, bass, orchestral strings, and more!
Elena Maria
Soundtrack, 2009. A soft, Spanish ballad. Belongs with the upcoming novel, Rollin' Thunder. Just guitar and vocals on this one. Very rough demo.
Joshua Love, Outlaw On The Run
Soundtrack, 2009. A nice, 3/4 time ballad, in which Joshua Love sings about himself. He wrote it in the novel, Three Ways From Sunday.
Eliza
Soundtrack, 2009. Another song "written" by outlaw Joshua Love. Upbeat, country-folksy song, which appears in the print novel, Three Ways From Sunday. Just guitars and drums!
The Pig Is Dead
Soundtrack, 2009. Very short a capella song. Villain Cal Evans sings this in the novel, Desperado Dawn, after he has killed his former gang partner, Henry Owens.
The Ballad of the Beam (Bonus Track)
Western swing. Written for my crazy teenage outlaw, Joshua Love, from the Desperado series of Western novels. I like to say Josh wrote it. This is a boot-scootin' song. One of my best, and also a funny little story song.
Desperado (Bonus Track)
Instrumental theme for my Desperado series of western novels. It's got a 60's-ish spaghetti western kinda vibe to it. It's also a little addictive, so listen at your own risk!
Album: Raw
RPM Challenge 2008 album. This album is so named because almost everything on it was recorded in one take. The exception is "Wrong Side of Love," where the vocal took four attempts. The room was full of smoke and I kept choking on the high notes, so I had to keep trying until I got a reasonably clean vocal track. If you listen closely, you can hear my chewing gum. I was desperately trying to save my voice! ;P These are not all the tracks that are on the CD. I'll add the rest, at some point.
Down On The Brazos
Country blues, 2008. What better place to drown yourself than the muddy ol' Brazos? Nobody'd ever find your body, in the muck. ;P I tossed a lot of reverb into this one, so it has sort of a 50's big-room sound. I did that with most of the 2008 songs, in fact.
The Ballad of the Beam
Western swing. Written for my crazy teenage outlaw, Joshua Love, from the Desperado series of Western novels. I like to say Josh wrote it. This is a boot-scootin' song. One of my best, and also a funny little story song.
One Wish
Soft rock, 2008. I wrote this song in the depths of a horrible depression, one of those uber-blues periods where even the sun is black. Thank God I got out of it.
Black Molly
Blues rock, 2008. Written for my webcomics band, Angels of the Sword. The song belongs to Jax, the lead singer/guitarist, and it's about drugs. But if that bothers you, please pretend it's about a woman. Or a fish, if you're silly like that. :D
Long Road Home
Soft rock, 2008. I wrote this song when I was 17 years old. The recording sucks, but I doubt I'll ever redo it. I'd rather just move on and write some new songs.
Deep Blue
Soft rock, 2008. Another song for Angels of the Sword, this one is about a man who is in love with a ghost woman, who only appears at midnight. One of my better songs, I think.
Nobody Home
Oddball bluesy rock, 2008. Yet another Angels of the Sword song, all keyboards and creepy church bells. It's also Jax's and is about attempting to escape the horrors of his shitty life in the equally horrible use of drugs. One of my faves!
Wrong Side of Love
Blues/r&b, 2008. My old-style R&B song. I need to try and do the vocal, again, when my vocal chords are not being attacked by somebody else's cheapass cigarette smoke. Also need to eventually put in the guitar solo. I left a spot for it, but didn't feel particularly inspired to do a solo for it, when I recorded it.
Album: Monochrome Heart
RPM Challenge 2007 album. This album has a love theme: looking for love, pining for it, rejecting it, reveling in it. Lots of fun songs, but many lacked in production quality. I've only included a few that I consider the best from the album. I may add the rest of them, later, when I have time.
Maybe Tomorrow
Blues rock, 2007. This is the Angels of the Sword theme song. Not that great a performance, but I consider the lead guitar solo in this song to be the best I have ever written. It's also a pretty song! (^-^)
Let Me Go
Blues, 2007. Very old-style blues, a la "St. James Infirmary Blues." Another of my personal faves!
Bad Boy Blues
Blues rock, 2007. Angels of the Sword song, this one appears on the 2007 RPM Compilation album, "Jazzed to be Blue."
Pretty Please
Blues rock, 2007. Technically, this is an Angels of the Sword song, but I wrote it for my lovely lady, Kimi. It's a rockin' love song.
I Want Your Stuff
Blues rock, 2007. Pseudo-live version of an Angels of the Sword song. This one is sexy, silly and fun. You'll like it. I promise!
