Song Notes
These mp3's are not the final masters. They're all demos, though some of them are not far off from the CD finals in quality.
Album: Raw
This album is so named because almost everything on it was recorded in one take. The exception is "Wrong Side of Love," where the vocal took four attempts. The room was full of smoke and I kept choking on the high notes, so I had to keep trying until I got a reasonably clean vocal track. If you listen closely, you can hear my chewing gum. I was desperately trying to save my voice! ;P
1. Down on the Brazos
Country blues, 2008. What better place to drown yourself than the muddy ol' Brazos? Nobody'd ever find your body, in the muck. ;P I tossed a lot of reverb into this one, so it has sort of a 50's big-room sound. I did that with most of the 2008 songs, in fact.
2. The Ballad of the Beam
Western swing. Written for my crazy teenage outlaw, Joshua Love, from the Desperado series of Western novels. I like to say Josh wrote it. This is a boot-scootin' song. One of my best, and also a funny little story song.
3. One Wish
Soft rock, 2008. I wrote this song in the depths of a horrible depression, one of those uber-blues periods where even the sun is black. Thank God I got out of it.
4. Black Molly
Blues rock, 2008. Written for my webcomics band, Angels of the Sword. The song belongs to Jax, the lead singer/guitarist, and it's about drugs. But if that bothers you, please pretend it's about a woman. Or a fish, if you're silly like that. :D
5. Long Road Home
Soft rock, 2008. I wrote this song when I was 17 years old. The recording sucks, but I doubt I'll ever redo it. I'd rather just move on and write some new songs.
6. Deep Blue
Soft rock, 2008. Another song for Angels of the Sword, this one is about a man who is in love with a ghost woman, who only appears at midnight. One of my better songs, I think.
7. Nobody Home
Oddball bluesy rock, 2008. Yet another Angels of the Sword song, all keyboards and creepy church bells. It's also Jax's and is about attempting to escape the horrors of his shitty life in the equally horrible use of drugs.
8. Wrong Side of Love
Blues/r&b, 2008. My old-style R&B song. Still one of my faves, though I need to try and do the vocal, again, when my vocal chords are not being attacked by somebody else's cheapass cigarette smoke. Also need to eventually put in the guitar solo. I left a spot for it, but didn't feel particularly inspired to do a solo for it, when I recorded it.
Album: Desperado
I'm not finished with this album, yet. It's a soundtrack for my Desperado series of western novels. "The Ballad of the Beam" should go here, but it's also on the Raw album. Didn't see a point in listing it, twice.
9. Desperado
Soundtrack, 2008. Instrumental theme for my Desperado series of western novels. It's got a 60's-ish spaghetti western kinda vibe to it. It's also a little addictive, so listen at your own risk!
Album: Monochrome Heart
This album has a love theme: looking for love, pining for it, rejecting it, reveling in it. Lots of fun songs, but many lacked in production quality. I've only included the three that I consider the best from the album.
10. Bad Boy Blues
Blues rock, 2007. Angels of the Sword song, this one appears on the 2007 RPM Compilation album, "Jazzed to be Blue."
11. Pretty Please
Blues rock, 2007. Technically, this is an Angels of the Sword song, but I wrote it for my lovely lady, Kimi. It's a rockin' love song.
12. I Want Your Stuff
Blues rock, 2007. Pseudo-live version of an Angels of the Sword song. This one is sexy, silly and fun. You'll like it. I promise!
